In recent years Vicky has devoted many hours to researching new subjects for her designs. This was especially so when she created her famous globes for RHS Chelsea in 2014. It was during this project that she noted a flower called ‘Black Barlow’. Artistically impressed, she sketched their deliciously dark petals for future reference. Four years later and here they are- stunning, double-flowering Aquilegias. Black Barlow has rich, deep purple, almost black petals that have a bluish gleam in bright sunlight. Vicky explains, ‘I first encountered Black Barlows when I designed the globes for Chelsea and thought “one day I will have them growing in my garden. Well, it’s still no-go on the garden front, so I thought I’d better do a design devoted solely to Black Barlows. They really are so gorgeous.’
