Moorcroft Ammonite Plaque, MCR-027
Originally founded as a studio in 1897 within a large ceramic company, James Macintyre & Co. Moorcroft pottery soon made its mark on the world. Today, Moorcroft leads the world of art pottery with its own distinctive design style. C W Sellors are proud to present this Moorcroft collection featuring stunning pottery designs inspired by nature and fossils.
Pushing the boundaries of experimentation with Moorcroft’s raw ingredients, this fossil pattern of a Ammonite is suggestive of impressions on the surface of the clay. A clever but light application of metallic oxide colour highlights peaks and troughs in the surface, thereby supporting the archaic appearance of the individual fossils. The collection includes a trilobite, an ammonite, a carbon film of a leaf and a limulus. Each plaque is surrounded in a soft, earthy-coloured mount and framed in wood.
